"No Wound Left Behind" Offers Vietnam Veteran a Telehealth Option During COVID-19

Paralyzed Vietnam Veteran Roger Harris was living at a VA Community Living Center (CLC) where he received specialty wound care for a severe pressure injury that he developed many years ago. When the COVID-19 pandemic started, his wife Betty was no longer able to visit him because of physical distancing precautions. The situation was hard on the couple, so his care team developed a plan that would allow him to move back home and receive care there.

That plan involved VA's award-winning "No Wound Left Behind" TeleWound program, which helps Veterans receive wound care virtually at VA outpatient clinics or in their own homes. The program uses video telehealth technology to provide virtual visits with wound specialists who can examine Veterans' wounds visually. Harris also receives visits from a home-based care team.

"Every Veteran should take advantage of this program if they are eligible," Harris said. "Wounds can get out of hand fast, and this program takes that fear away."
