Veterans across the nation are using a combination of home telehealth devices and VA Video Connect to monitor their health and communicate with their VA providers. U.S. Air Force Veteran William Farmer is one such Veteran. He lives in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, about an hour away from the nearest VA facility.
In one corner of his home, Farmer keeps his blood pressure machine and other home telehealth equipment with a desktop and webcam for his video visits. Every morning, he uses the home telehealth devices to check and send his vitals to his VA care team at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center. Then twice a month, he visits with his pulmonary care physician, Dr. Mary Ellis, over VA Video Connect.
“This is a wonderful thing for me because of the time it saves,” Farmer says. “It’s a big deal to stay home and not have to drive the 100 miles.”
A Wisconsin TV news station recently interviewed Farmer and Dr. Ellis. Watch the video.
