With the rise of smart devices, it is no surprise that Veterans have begun turning to products and apps that help monitor their health using their cellphones and other personal devices, such as Fitbits, Apple Watches, and more. According to Dr. Kathleen Frisbee, Connected Care's Executive Director of Connected Health, VA is laser-focused on integrating patients' data that is generated from these smart devices with the care plans offered by VA health care teams.
Dr. Frisbee recently wrote an op-ed article highlighting a new Apple Watch pilot program taking place at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital in Tampa, Florida. The article explains how VA is gathering data from other types of connected devices, like glucometers, as well as how Annie automated text messages are promoting self-care for those enrolled in VA health care.
