Senate Hearing Testimony Details VA Telehealth for Rural Veterans

Dr. Kevin Galpin, Executive Director of Telehealth Services, recently testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs. Dr. Galpin answered senators' questions about numerous topics during the "VA Telehealth During and Beyond COVID-19: Challenges and Opportunities in Rural America" hearing, relating to:

  • Purchases made under the CARES Act since March 1, 2020, including 30,000 4G-connected iPads for Veterans, and 12,000 iPads, 24,000 webcams and 22,000 headsets for providers.
  • Partnerships established with telecommunications companies to improve internet access for Veterans living in rural communities.
  • Reopening and expansion plans for ATLAS (Accessing Telehealth through Local Area Stations) in rural areas.
  • The exponential growth in VA Video Connect usage.
