VA PUR App Helps Caregivers Provide Continuous Care to Veterans

Pressure ulcers, commonly known as bed sores, are an issue for Veterans with limited mobility, and VA has a new app to help manage the daily care of this condition.

The recently released VA Pressure Ulcer/Injury Resource (VA PUR) App was created to help Veterans and their Caregivers learn about preventing and caring for pressure ulcers. With VA PUR, Veterans and their Caregivers will be able to create journal entries to track pressure ulcers and set up regular reminders to move, eat and take medications. The app also includes educational videos and articles to help users learn about exercise, skin care, re-positioning and more.

"We wanted to make it innovative and pull in the Caregiver – which is huge for providing continuous care to the Veteran in the home setting," said Shantia McCoy-Jones, VA's clinical nurse advisor on the project.
