Ret. Navy Veteran Jim Doray and his wife Paulina live in Julian, Calif., more than 50 miles from the nearest VA Medical Center. Following a 2013 spinal cord injury and many surgeries, Jim required frequent medical appointments and prescription refills, both of which required all-day journeys. The couple struggled, both physically and emotionally, until they were introduced to VA telehealth.
“It was always our dream to live in the mountains and have our own land – and not be living on top of each other. So [telehealth] allowed us to live our dream and still have good medical care,” Mr. Doray explains. Today, he is an avid user of VA Video Connect, as well as My HealtheVet’s online prescription tools and Secure Messaging.
